Obelisk on the Lousberg Aachen – Viewpoint and place of remembrance

On the Lousberg stands an obelisk erected in 1807 to commemorate the surveying work of Jean Joseph Tranchot. From this spot he mapped the region, forming the basis of one of the most precise cartographic records of its time. The monument rises quietly among the trees and opens a view stretching from the Soers valley to the edge of the Eifel. Reaching the top, you sense both the historical depth and the calm of the landscape. Its modest form leaves space for personal reflection and makes it a tranquil marker of Aachen’s past.
