description: "The Ostfriedhof, founded in 1803 outside the former city limits, is one of Aachen’s oldest active cemeteries. Walking through its paths, you encounter mausoleums and family graves that reflect generations of local history. The site reveals the transition from Catholic origins to later inclusiveness, shaped by several expansions in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Old trees and sculptural monuments create an atmosphere of calm that invites contemplation while offering insight into Aachen’s past."
