Cozy retreats for rainy autumn days

Strolling through Aachen's weekly market in beautifully warm sunlight is the perfect association with autumn. We all love it at some point, somehow, feeling free and light. It takes place on Tuesdays at the Elisenbrunnen and on Thursdays on the market square from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m..

However, the lightness seems to fade with the onset of autumn, the cooler temperatures, drizzle or heavy rain and shorter hours of sunshine. Realistically, this doesn't have to be the case, does it? There are so many beautiful and intense things that intoxicate our senses in autumn. That's exactly what I want to show you in Aachen!

“This part, this little part of my life, is called: Bliss.”

With this film quote by Will Smith from “ The Pursuit of Happiness ” we start our little journey to some destinations in Aachen that evoke positive feelings for me on grey, sometimes rainy autumn days.

Café Vers at Löhergraben

Sometimes it's especially nice to be able to unwind in a relaxed atmosphere. Simply with your own thoughts, with nice conversations, a book, knitting, with people who do you good. For good coffee, savoury and sweet treats, good wine and special drinks, I love going to Café Vers am Löhergraben. The literary café in the old baroque factory exudes the special spirit of a mixture of coffee, art and literary culture, which is also reflected in its multifaceted events. An incredibly inspiring place to ‘be’ and ‘soak up’ culture.

International Newspaper Museum & Café

I see another exciting symbiosis of ‘art and coffee’ in Pontstraße in the International Newspaper Museum with a lovely café to linger in. This incredibly interesting media museum presents the history of print media right up to the present day, offers guided tours and workshops for young and old, teaches media skills and a sense of the written word, the feel of paper in book and magazine form and the spoken word. I like to enjoy a warm drink and browse through magazines from all over the world in the ‘Good News’ café with seating inside and also in the cosy inner courtyard - wrapped up in a woollen blanket in a kind of metal igloo. My little trip around the world in the heart of Aachen. Insanely inspiring.

Studio Clay

Unleashing my own creativity, just doing it, being able to give shape to my ideas is a form of bliss for me. In the ‘Studio Clay’, Borngasse, pottery and ceramic painting is possible in beautiful, warm pastel-coloured rooms. Young and old can go there without an appointment to paint the ceramics that are sold there. Pottery courses and creative workshops take place by appointment. How nice is such a creative break for a birthday, a hen party, a team-building event or simply family time?

Capitol

Visual enjoyment is very important in Aachen's - for me, the most beautiful cinema - Capitol. A special selection of films, somewhat beyond the mainstream, attracts a particularly interested audience. Surrounded by film-loving people, with the special feature of a lounge bar in the cinema auditorium, I can rave about the excellent ‘quality of stay’ in Aachen. Watching a film while enjoying a drink at the bar. It's great, a bit cosmopolitan. And yet still very much Aachen, because the people of Aachen have known the Capitol since time immemorial, albeit in a different guise.

Restaurant Elisenbrunnen

For lovers of a classic city restaurant, the Elisenbrunnen restaurant in the centre of the city is perfect. Good cuisine - I love the Wiener Schnitzel - from morning to evening. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks, cakes and coffee specialities can be enjoyed in the restaurant, on the terrace or in the ambience of a fine and cosy fireplace room with a wall of books, sofas and firewood. For me, the Elisenbrunnen restaurant is ‘urban cosy’. Relaxed lingering with a view of the Elisengarten.

Lust auf Life

Not everyone knows it, not everyone loves it... perhaps I can pique your curiosity with a tip for families. With a name that says it all, ‘Lust auf Life’, a vacant former department stores' property is currently being used as a temporary venue for events, culture and sport. I like the atmosphere of the urban, raw yet informal skate night. Further events are always announced. As I said - it's temporary! The redevelopment will start at some point!

Carolus Thermen

There is no other place in Aachen where the intersection of all sensory pleasures - smelling, tasting, hearing, feeling - is as wonderful and vast as in this magical place: the ‘Carolus Therme’ oasis on the edge of Aachen's city centre. Believe me, everyone can enjoy absolute relaxation here. Indoor and outdoor thermal baths, a wonderful sauna area (textile-free) that transports you to other worlds, a spa, fantastic massages and meditation sessions. A pure holiday for body and soul! A few hours of this bliss give me pure energy! Where else can I immerse myself in the atmosphere of the Orient and a cool mountain lake, drink good wine, eat fine food and enjoy a massage?

Curious about my cosy autumn tips? Let yourself drift away to the fine little places, because ‘drifting’ also creates moments of bliss!

I love my Aachen!
