Autumn festival at the Selfkantbahn

Sugar beets and fertilizer, potatoes and crates - everything that trucks transport today was once carried by rail. The Selfkantbahn, the only surviving narrow-gauge steam narrow-gauge railroad in North Rhine-Westphalia, recalls this time and demonstrates shunting operations with historic freight cars at Schierwaldenrath station. This is followed by a demonstration of transport by freight trains by rail, as was the case 70 years ago on the Rhenish small railroads in rural areas.
In the large museum hall and on the tracks at Schierwaldenrath station, guests can view the collection of historic steam and diesel locomotives as well as passenger and freight cars from all eras and buy regional products at reasonable prices on the station grounds and in the vehicle hall in Schierwaldenrath.
The physical well-being of the guests is well taken care of.
On Saturday the steam trains will run all afternoon and on Sunday all day from Gangelt-Schierwaldenrath station to Geilenkirchen-Gillrath and back. On all days there is a special timetable with several trains in changing combinations. The "Mühlenexpress", a vintage bus from 1953, will depart from Schierwaldenrath station several times on Sunday to visit the windmills in the area. There, passengers can learn about the historical technology of the mills.
