The programme includes sacred a cappella works by Heinrich Schütz, Josef Rheinberger and John Rutter. The selected compositions describe in an impressive and at the same time astonishingly topical way the tension between worldly distress and the hope for divine assistance. This is particularly true of Rutter's ‘Magnificat’, which makes these contrasts musically moving and comforting.
Some works will be accompanied by the chamber orchestra of the Aachen Music School, which is made up of teachers. In addition, the ensemble will perform Ottorino Respighi's melodious ‘Antiche Danze ed Arie’.
