Memory of the city

Guided tour/tour
Public guided tour of the Aachen City Archive
The Aachen City Archive opens its doors on this public tour and shows you how the city preserves its own memory. Between documents, maps, photos and files from around 1000 years of history, you will discover how carefully the traces of past times are preserved. The oldest document is a deed from 1018, the most recent the current daily newspaper. Around ten kilometers of shelves filled with sources give an impression of how richly documented Aachen's past is. The guided tour gives you a look behind the scenes, explains how the archive works and shows how answers to historical questions are found here. A place where history remains alive.
