October Music 2025

Classic
Traditional October music with Aachen's new cathedral conductor
80 years ago, in October 1944, Aachen was the first major German city to be liberated by Allied troops. Just one year later, the then cathedral conductor Theodor Bernhard Rehmann "invented" the so-called October Music. Since then, this concert format has kept alive the gratitude for the liberation and the memory of the horrors of war.
Felix Heitmann is the musical director of the concert for the first time. The 40-year-old has chosen Mårten Jansson's "Requiem Novum" as the main work. Composed in 2019, the work is already regarded as one of the greatest settings of the Latin Mass for the Dead since the late Romantic period. The Aachen Cathedral Choir and the municipal symphony orchestra will be joined by soprano Christien Berger.
