The “Mineralquellen”, or mineral source, route forms an important longitudinal and transverse connection together with the Kalkeifel (Chalk Eifel) and Kosmos cycle routes.
It connects the Ahr cycle route to the Maare-Moselle cycle route and the Eifel-Ardennes cycle route. To the west of the route, the Kalkeifel cycle route leads northwards from the Kyll cycle route to the Ahr cycle route. After Daun, the Kosmos cycle route acts as a link between the Maare-Moselle cycle route and Eifel-Ardennes cycle route, extending cyclists’ enjoyment while cycling through the Eifel.
The cycle route travels gently, but continuously uphill until the water divide between the Rhine and the Moselle behind Dockweiler is reached. The remaining ten kilometres to Daun are downhill, passing Dreis-Brück, where the “Nürburg Quelle” company operates several mineral water sources. By the way: in the Volcanic Eifel, the valuable element from the depths of the earth is not only used to fill bottles, but is also used as a spa treatment.
