He and his roommates see the origin of the clown character as an opportunity to shake up the prevailing order. After all, the jester, who was allowed to humiliate the king with impunity, once fulfilled a political function. As Arlecchino in the commedia dell'arte, the clown figure was an audience favorite, and in the circus a symbol of innocent childhood memories. In today's pop culture, clowns are almost only up to mischief in horror films. How can we explain this gradual loss of significance of the clowns? Are we afraid of the clowns within us? Would the world descend into chaos if everyone gave free rein to their inner clowns?
