Leonora Carrington (1917-2011), painter, magician and author, escaped the constraints of her wealthy family early on and joined the Surrealists in Paris. When her partner, the painter Max Ernst, was interned in the south of France in 1940, she suffered a mental breakdown. The psyche stages object theater: animals begin to speak, objects come to life, reality is out of joint. A magical journey into her inner self begins...

Leonora Carrington's autobiographical story Below forms the basis of this production: "Windsbraut" combines drama with puppet theater and shows the surreal as poetic resistance to an unbearable, crazy world: visually powerful, playful, moving.
