Couven Museum Aachen: a walk through Rococo, Empire and Biedermeier

At the Couven Museum, you can step into rooms that bring to life the everyday life of Aachen's upper middle class from the Rococo to the Biedermeier periods. The Monheim House on Hühnermarkt was redesigned by Jakob Couven in the 18th century and today shows how artfully furniture, colours and shapes once interacted. As you walk around, you will sense the transition between different stylistic periods, reflected in fine porcelain, filigree clocks and lovingly designed interiors. The museum invites you to discover a world in which prestige and comfort were closely linked. Each room seems to offer a quiet reminder of how the city has changed over generations and what stories continue to echo within its walls.

The Couven Museum is also open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for booked groups and by prior arrangement for public guided tours and courses.
