Korneliusmarkt square
In the heart of Kornelimünster, the Korneliusmarkt is a square where the history of the town is particularly evident. Its proximity to Benediktusplatz means that the two spaces almost merge into one another, creating a compact centre. Half-timbered and quarry stone characterise the rows of houses and give the market a look that is reminiscent of the long development of the settlement around the imperial abbey. Market freedom was confirmed as early as 985, which made the town a lively centre from an early stage. As you walk over the cobblestones, quiet corners and sweeping views of the surrounding architecture combine to create an atmospheric impression that makes the old centre of Kornelimünster particularly tangible.
