Losheimergraben – Trier | The Kyll Bike Path runs from Losheimergraben to Trier through the Eifel region along the Kyll River. The Cologne–Trier railroad line runs parallel to it.

The Kyll Bike Trail stretches about 130 kilometers straight through the Eifel region and follows the Kyll River from its source near Losheimergraben to its confluence with the Moselle near Trier, Germany’s oldest city. The route offers a varied landscape and passes through forests, villages, and historic towns. At the start of the bike tour, you’ll experience the Northern Eifel with its reservoirs and lakes, such as Lake Kronenburg. The route continues through the Volcanic Eifel—a region shaped by the forces of nature—to Stadtkyll, a small town with charming half-timbered houses and a beautiful church, as well as Gerolstein, known for its mineral springs and the impressive Löwenburg Castle. Orchards and rugged rock formations characterize the landscapes of the Southern Eifel.
In St. Thomas, the old monastery is well worth a visit, while Bitburg entices visitors with its famous Bitburger beer. Finally, you’ll reach Trier, Germany’s oldest city, which impresses with numerous Roman monuments such as the Porta Nigra and the Imperial Baths.

The elevation profile of the Kyll Bike Trail is mostly gently rolling, with a notable climb of about 110 meters in elevation between Kyllburg and Bitburg-Erdorf. A particular advantage of the Kyll Bike Path is that it runs partly along former railroad tracks, ensuring a smooth and pleasant ride. The section from Jünkerath to Trier, in particular, runs parallel to the Eifel railroad line and passes through two tunnels.

To ensure that construction work can proceed without disruption and that you can ride safely, please follow the signposted detour or use the alternative route starting from Bitburg-Erdorf.

Connection to the Vennbahn Bike Path:
The connecting bike path between the Kyll Bike Path and the Vennbahn Bike Path in Belgium—which continues along the same railway right-of-way as the Kyll Bike Path—is the RAVeL L (Ligne) 45a. The RAVeL L45a runs from Losheim, Honsfeld, Büllingen, and Büttgenbach to the Vennbahn Bike Path near Oberweywertz.
