A Musical Birthday Celebration at the Cathedral

Concert various
From Vivaldi to the Present Day
The girls' choir at Aachen Cathedral is celebrating its 15th anniversary on the last weekend in May with a special birthday program.

The celebrations will kick off on Saturday at 7 pm with an anniversary concert in Aachen Cathedral. The program includes baroque music by Antonio Vivaldi: Kyrie and Gloria in an arrangement for women's choir - a work that has never before been heard in this form in Aachen Cathedral. The choir is accompanied by the cathedral winds and two soloists. Choirmaster Marco Fühner was particularly taken with the powerful passages: "It really gets going," he enthuses about the "juicy baroque music". Song of the Universe" by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, which is currently being performed internationally, forms a contrast to this. The work combines rhythmic elements with an impressive sound and is one of the modern highlights of the program.

A musical church service followed by a family day will conclude the anniversary celebrations on Sunday at 10 am.
