A Bundeswehr officer who refuses orders. A member of “Last Generation” who is imprisoned for her activism. A railway unionist who organizes strikes. A pig farmer who blocks roads. What they all have in common is that they have crossed a line: they have either broken the law or are perceived by the public as “disobedient” because of their actions and are being pressured. “Disobedience” means taking a personal risk, pushing the boundaries of what is permitted, expected, and customary, crossing them, questioning them. Disobedience takes place on both a small and large scale: on German highways, at the Federal Office for Migration, by whistleblowers, in the Hambach Forest or in Lützerath – or in villages that have been declared autonomous republics by Reich citizens. Disobedience is just as much a topic of media attention as it is a small act of private defiance. Sometimes it is motivated by noble goals, sometimes by irrational fears, and sometimes by big moral questions.
Authors Marcel Raabe and Manuel Waltz conducted numerous interviews, accompanied by intensive research on the topic of civil disobedience. From the documentary material, they developed a participatory play that involves the audience.
