14-year-old Maik comes from a wealthy but dysfunctional home. His mother is an alcoholic and his father would rather be with his assistant than with the family. Maik also feels isolated and misunderstood at school. Then he meets Andrej, known as “Tschick”. The rebellious classmate comes from Russia - and from a difficult background. In a stolen, rickety Lada, the two of them travel across Germany via garbage dumps and abandoned brown coal mining areas. On their journey, the two outsiders have bizarre and touching encounters that change their view of life - and of themselves.
