The Horse. Three Museums

Exhibition

Opening of the exhibitions as part of the World Equestrian Games

The three participating museums cordially invite you to the Aula Carolina for the grand opening of the exhibitions!

In the Year of the Horse, three Aachen museums are dedicating themselves to the theme of the horse in art, photography, and film in conjunction with CHIO Aachen and the 2026 World Equestrian Games. The Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum presents the horse in art from antiquity to the present day with over 130 works by artists including Albrecht Dürer, Philips Wouwerman, Peter Paul Rubens, Francisco de Goya, and Max Liebermann. At the Centre Charlemagne, in collaboration with the Museum of the Aachen-Laurensberg Racing Club, unique photographic documents from the 100-year history of the CHIO Aachen are on display. The Ludwig Forum for International Art is presenting two short films in the central exhibition hall: *Centaur* (2020) by the German-Iranian artist Yalda Afsah and *Horses Across the Meadow* (2014) by the Swiss artist couple Marianne Halter & Mario Marchisella.
