Tinte trifft Tusche

The exhibition “Ink Meets Ink Drawing. Inkwells and Ink Drawings” at the Couven Museum brings together historic writing culture and contemporary art. Around 70 elaborately crafted Art Nouveau inkwells and writing sets from the collection of Dr Julius Rohm showcase the diversity of forms and design ideals around 1900. Floral ornaments, mythological figures and fine details transform everyday writing tools into decorative works of art.

These historical objects are paired with specially created ink drawings by Aachen artist Stephan Wunsch. Inspired by the shapes of the writing instruments and the unique atmosphere of the Couven Museum, he creates detailed imaginary worlds that explore themes such as time, transience, imagination and memory. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover ink as a creative medium connecting writing, drawing and artistic expression.
