World Equestrian Games Chess game
The city marketing department is setting up an oversized chess game on Katschhof Square, bringing the equestrian flair to the city even before the competitions begin. Flowing capes, defiant tower caps, flowing manes, traditional dungarees, wide brimmed hats or jagged crowns: all the pieces – from pawns to kings – are friendly horse characters that have been designed and manufactured with great attention to detail. The gold and purple ‘game pieces’, measuring between 85 and 140 centimetres, invite young and old alike to play chess in the shadow of the cathedral. If you don't know the rules yet or have forgotten them, you'll find them explained simply right next to the 18 x 18 metre playing area.
