'Burg Frankenberg': A medieval landmark in the 'Frankenberger district'
Frankenberg Castle stands in the Frankenberg neighborhood; its walls date back to the 13th century. The complex was originally an independent castle and later came into the possession of the counts and dukes of Jülich, Kleve, and Berg. Today, Frankenberg Castle serves as a cultural and event venue. The building still displays the typical features of a medieval lowland castle and, thanks to its location in the heart of a residential neighborhood, serves as a quiet anchor between the past and the present. As you stroll through the neighborhood, the castle appears almost unexpectedly, as if a piece of the town’s medieval history had survived into the present day. The stones bear the marks of many centuries and convey a sense of permanence that shapes the atmosphere of the surrounding area.
