Klenkes
The Klenkes is more than just a small gesture. The raised little finger tells of Aachen's time as the centre of the needle industry. At that time, workers sorted out defective needles by pushing them aside with their little fingers. This movement gave rise to a greeting that still connects people from afar today. The sculpture in the city centre picks up on this symbol and makes it visible. To passers-by, it acts as a silent wink, reminding them of the city's craft tradition and at the same time conveying a sense of belonging.
