“Öcher Schängche” city puppet theatre
Since 1921, the Öcher Schängche has shaped the cultural landscape of the city and brought traditional characters to life. The stage was created to preserve puppet theatre and the local dialect, Oecher Platt, while also passing it on in a humorous way. Today, you can find the city puppet theatre in the Barockfabrik, where it has been based since 1982. The atmosphere is informal and at the same time deeply rooted in culture. In addition to classic performances, new programmes are constantly being created that playfully showcase the regional dialect while honouring the long tradition of puppetry. Here, history, language and lively theatre art merge into an experience that connects generations and brings Aachen's identity to life.
