The museum stands for art from antiquity to classical modernism. However, the medieval sculpture collection is one of the museum's highlights. The Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum owes its extensive collection to donations from Aachen citizens and many other patrons. It has been housed in the former Villa Cassalette since 1901. It was named after the two great benefactors Barthold Suermondt and Irene and Peter Ludwig. In addition to numerous changing exhibitions, the museum also offers an extensive educational program.

All floors can be reached by elevator. However, there are different floor levels where wheelchair users should be prepared for detours. The museum has a standard wheelchair.
