The "Seepferdchenbrunnen" fountain
At the end of Burtscheid's pedestrian zone stands the Seahorse Fountain, whose bronze figures immediately catch the eye. The six upright seahorses were created by Josef Zeller and originally belonged to the rotunda of the Elisenbrunnen fountain. They have stood here on Kapellenstraße since 1971, lending the square a calm, almost cheerful atmosphere. The dark marble bowl of the fountain forms a calm counterpoint to the filigree figures. If you pause for a moment, you will discover a hint of movement in the arrangement of the seahorses, as if they were curiously observing the water. The fountain is a silent reminder of how much Aachen has linked art and craftsmanship, even in the recent past.
