Regenschirmdamen Aachen – quiet companions in the pedestrian street
Three female figures have stood on Großkölnstraße since 1974, shaping the image of Aachen's city centre. Sculptor Heinz Tobolla created the umbrella ladies as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the city's often changeable weather. The three bronze figures share two umbrellas, as if they were weathering a shower together. When you walk past them, you notice their calm, almost everyday posture, which radiates warmth and a touch of irony. The sculpture is firmly anchored in the pedestrian zone and has become a familiar feature of the cityscape.
