Printenmädchen Aachen – a silent thank you to a sweet tradition
In front of the Alt Aachener Kaffeestuben café stands a statue that almost imperceptibly catches the eye. The Printenmädchen (printen girl) was created in 1985 by Hubert Lönneke and donated by Leo van den Daele as a token of his appreciation for the Öcher Prent. The bronze sculpture depicts a girl carrying a bowl full of Printen. There is something calm and almost mundane about her posture, as if she has just stepped out of an old bakery. As you walk past, you can imagine how closely the city is connected to this pastry, whose roots go back to Belgian Gebildbrot. The statue seems like a small greeting from Aachen's culinary memory.
