Uniklinik RWTH Aachen: high‑tech architecture for medicine, research and teaching
The University Hospital RWTH Aachen stands out from afar thanks to its unique architecture. Construction of the monumental building complex began in the early 1970s based on plans by architects Weber and Brand, and it was officially inaugurated in 1985. The structure is reminiscent of industrial facilities, as this was the first time high-tech architecture was used in hospital construction. With several thousand rooms and clearly structured levels, it is a place that combines medical care, research and teaching under one roof. The dimensions of the building are both powerful and functional. As you approach the building, you can sense how it translates the idea of modern medicine into spatial form, becoming a striking feature of Aachen's cityscape.
