Mysterious Glazes – Yue Celadon from China
The fascinating world of Yue kiln celadon - the "mother porcelain" of China: on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Aachen-Ningbo town twinning, the Couven Museum is showing a cabinet exhibition with around 20 celadon vessels by the artist SHI Zhen from Ningbo.
The small summer exhibition takes you back to the origins of one of the most important ceramic traditions in the world: masterful pieces, famous for their mysterious, finely shimmering glaze, were created here as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty. The center of this art once developed around Shanglin Lake near Ningbo - the "porcelain capital" of the Tang and Song dynasties.
