Monastery of the Aachener Franziskanerinnen – origin of a community shaped by compassion
The mother house of the Aachen Franciscan Sisters, founded by Franziska Schervier in 1845 in response to the plight of people in the emerging industrial age, is located in the old town. Early on, the community opened its doors to those who were often overlooked in everyday life. The history of the place is characterised by care and the desire to make social divisions visible and to counteract them. When you visit the convent, you can feel the connection between living tradition and quiet strength that has sustained this place for generations. The buildings appear unassuming and maintain an atmosphere in which tranquillity and compassion go hand in hand.
