Congress monument
The Congress Monument stands among old trees in the Stadtgarten park, a silent echo of a time when Aachen was briefly the centre of Europe. Following the Peace Congress of 1818, attended by the Prussian king, the Russian tsar and the Austrian emperor, it was erected on Adalbertsteinweg in 1822. Later, the monument was moved to the Stadtgarten, where its stone presence now creates a peaceful link between the past and the present. Standing in front of it, it is easy to imagine how political fortunes and the urban atmosphere once intertwined.
