Die Sitzende - the sitter

Since the late 1950s, the bronze sculpture ‘Die Sitzende’ (The Seated Woman) has been a feature of life in Burtscheid's spa gardens. The artist Heike Dobberkau first created it in 1959 and had a second cast made a few years later. Today, the figure rests once again in its familiar place after disappearing without a trace in 2015 and being replaced by its twin sculpture in early 2016. When you enter the spa gardens, you encounter a figure calmly lost in thought, whose simple posture exudes a special power. It invites you to pause for a moment and consciously take in the atmosphere of this traditional spa district.
