Granusturm
The Granusturm tower is one of the oldest visible architectural monuments in the city. Its lower floors date back to the time of Charlemagne and reveal how solid and functional early medieval architecture was. The tower was built as part of the imperial palace and marked a place where rule and everyday life were closely intertwined. Later extensions in the 14th century changed its appearance without obscuring its original character. Looking at the rough quarry stone masonry, one feels a quiet connection to an era whose traces have become increasingly rare in Aachen.
