Katschhof
Between Aachen Cathedral and the town hall, the Katschhof opens up as a spacious square where many layers of the city's history overlap. Its name recalls the former pillory that stood here in the Middle Ages. Today, on this expansive square, you can feel the special tension between the Carolingian Palatine Chapel and the town hall, which was built on the foundations of the royal hall. Archaeological finds show how Aachen developed from a Roman settlement to the palace of Charlemagne. The square invites you to discover the changing perspectives that arise from the proximity of two iconic buildings.
