St. Johann-Baptist
In the heart of Burtscheid stands St. Johann-Baptist, a church whose history dates back to 997. At that time, under Emperor Otto III, a chapel was first built, which later became the abbey church of the Imperial Abbey of Burtscheid. Even today, the imposing octagon is reminiscent of Aachen Cathedral, as it echoes its architectural design and gives the building a special presence. Inside, you will find evidence of more than seven centuries of religious tradition, including a small abbey treasure trove with historical treasures. The peaceful atmosphere around the church makes a visit here a moment in which history, faith and the grown surroundings of Burtscheid come together.
