The Karlsbrunnen - fountain
Since the 14th century, the Karlsbrunnen has dominated the heart of Aachen's market square. The bronze bowl rests heavily and silently, while the figure of Charlemagne looks out over the square. It serves as a reminder that power, trade and urban life once converged here. The original statue has been moved several times over the years and now stands in the Centre Charlemagne. Its replica sits enthroned on the fountain, continuing to highlight the historical core of the location. When you linger at the fountain, the sounds of today's market merge with images of past coronation ceremonies and political decisions that once shaped this square.
