Hühnerdieb
The small bronze figure of the 'Hühnerdieb' (chicken thief) is one of the charming motifs of Aachen's old town. It depicts the moment when a young thief is caught because he grabs a rooster instead of a chicken, which begins to crow loudly. The monument was created by Berlin sculptor Hermann Joachim Pagels, whose figure found its place at the Hühnermarkt in 1913. The fountain is a reminder of the market activities of bygone times and brings a quiet smile to the streets. If you stand here, you can feel the mixture of humour and tradition that makes this place so special.
