Westwall
Remnants of the Westwall, once intended as part of a gigantic line of fortifications, can still be found in the Aachen city area. Today, between patches of forest and small clearings, lie isolated mounds and overgrown bunkers. They are reminders of a time when fear and military planning dominated the border region. Many sections were blown up after the war, while others were reclaimed by nature. When you walk through the city forest or along the edge of the hills, you will encounter relics that are hardly noticeable yet tell a powerful story. The silent concrete structures act as memorials in the countryside, connecting history, landscape and reflection in a special way.
