Monument
Wartime in Aachen. The Westwall (or “Siegfried Line”) remains a testament...
... to a military defence system. In 1936, the western Allies attempted to protect the western border with Germany with a 630km-long wall. This protective wall, the “Siegfried Line”, also ran through Aachen, and as well as hidden bunkers, it was intended to protect citizens from attacks and approaching tanks. Today, the Aachener Wald forest still contains remnants of bunker facilities and tank tracks that act as a reminder of those times.
