An ancient drama trilogy

When Agamemnon returns from the Trojan War with the seeress Cassandra as his “spoils of war”, he falls into a trap. His wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisth murder him in revenge for the fact that Agamemnon once sacrificed his own daughter Iphigenia for good winds to Troy. One bloody deed begets another and the siblings Orest and Electra avenge their father's death on their mother. To put an end to the family curse, a civil court is convened to decide Orest's fate.

“The Oresteia” is not only the only completely preserved ancient drama trilogy, it is also the first written testimony of a democratic vote. Its author, Aeschylus, had experienced the end of a tyranny and the first steps towards democracy in Athens in his youth. In Florian Hertweck's production of all three parts, including a prologue with the prehistory of the Tantalid curse, great ancient tragedy meets participatory theater, “true crime” meets rap theater. He recently staged the rap spectacle “House of Karls”, and now Hertweck and the ensemble are devoting themselves to one of the oldest texts in literature: classical, pop, political, performative and cinematic.
