Annakirche church
St. Anne's Church - 'Annakirche' - is one of the oldest religious sites in Aachen. It was originally founded in 1511 as the monastery church of a Benedictine convent and later became the city's Protestant church. It played an important role in the life of the neighbourhood, which was then still called Scherpstraße, from an early stage. The building evolved over the centuries and was redesigned in the mid-18th century by Johan Josef Couven, who gave the space its current tranquil elegance. When you enter the church, you are met with an atmosphere that tells of a long, uninterrupted life of faith. The simple forms draw the eye to the essentials and allow the place to become a quiet retreat between history and the present.
