The "Möschebrunnen" fountain
On Münsterplatz square, you will find the Möschebrunnen fountain, whose name refers to the small sparrows known as Mösche in Aachen. The bronze sculpture by artist Bonifatius Stirnberg from the 1970s depicts several sparrows that appear to be playing together. The fountain stands on a site where water sources were already mentioned in the Middle Ages, thus continuing a long tradition of public fountains. Today, the gentle splashing invites you to linger for a moment and watch the movements of the figures. The scene has a cheerful effect and makes the square seem pleasantly quiet despite its central location.
