The "Puppenbrunnen" fountain
Between the cathedral and the town hall, you will find the Puppenbrunnen (Puppet Fountain), a work by Aachen sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg from 1975. The movable figures depict motifs closely linked to the city. You will encounter a bishop, a professor, town musicians and a figure from equestrian sports. Each small figure reveals a piece of Aachen's everyday life and history. If you pause for a moment and turn or move the figures, a silent spectacle unfolds that allows you to pause for a moment amid the hustle and bustle of Krämerstraße. The fountain seems like a playful commentary on life in the imperial city, easily accessible and yet full of allusions.
