Fischpüddelchen
In the middle of the historic fish market, you will encounter the Fischpüddelchen, a small fountain monument that has been bringing the history of this place to life since 1911. The figure depicts a naked toddler, a motif from the Aachen dialect that symbolises the former fish trade in the old town. Originally created by Hugo Lederer, it was melted down during the Second World War and remade in 1954 based on the destroyed model. Today, the Fischpüddelchen stands unobtrusively between the cathedral and market life, almost casually yet impressively. It invites you to pause for a moment and recall the lively past of this place.
