The "Steinerne Patrone" statue
In front of St. Cornelius Provost Church, you will encounter the Stone Patrons, two figures made of Nivelstein sandstone that have been guarding the historic entrance to the church for centuries. Cornelius with his characteristic horn and Cyprian at his side are reminders of the patron saints of the monastery and refer to the long religious significance of this place. The sandstone used was already prized in Roman times and gives the sculptures a special connection to regional history. As you approach, you feel the silent presence of the figures, which have become familiar companions over generations.
