Monument against intolerance
At the beginning of Oppenhoffallee stands the Memorial Against Intolerance, a place that serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of respect and social coexistence. Since 1973, thirteen concrete steles have marked the former forecourt of a synagogue. Engraved on their surfaces are texts from the Old and New Testaments as well as passages from the German Basic Law, calling for mindful interaction with one another. Walking between the steles creates a moment of pause, as the words are both simple and powerful. The memorial keeps the memory of past injustices alive and shows how responsibility and compassion can find their place in everyday life.
