Johannisbach
The Johannisbach stream has been part of Aachen since ancient times. It once flowed openly through the city and shaped a marshy lowland area where monasteries were first established. Later, simple workers' houses were built there, and at times even a slaughterhouse. Between 1875 and 1908, the stream was moved underground to improve hygienic conditions. In some places, it reappears today, for example around Lindenplatz, where the visible water brings tranquillity to the urban space and the importance of natural elements becomes tangible. If you follow its course, the path eventually opens up into the Wurm Valley, which combines tranquil nature with Aachen's history.
