Our New Year's resolutions

New year, new resolutions - January is often used to pause, look back and set new goals. We, the girls from the marketing department, have also come up with personal resolutions that we would like to realise in 2025.

Let our goals inspire you and discover with us how we want to make the new year more mindful, more active and more enjoyable - step by step, moment by moment, always with a touch of Aachen lifestyle.

Time out from everyday life on the Vennbahnweg

Auf einem Weg zwischen Bäumen und Sträuchern fahren zwei Personen Fahrrad im Sonnenlicht.
In herbstlichem Licht steht eine hellbraune Kuh an einem Zaun unter einem Baum und schaut in die Kamera.

As a village child, the forest and fresh air have always been part of my happiness. I need at least half an hour in nature every day to take a deep breath and clear my head - but this is sometimes difficult to combine with my busy everyday life.

My perfect solution, which I discovered in autumn and which I want to continue in 2025: cycling to work. I can cycle from the Eifel to the centre of the city and back in just under an hour via the Vennbahnweg. On the way: forests, fields, viaducts and tree-lined hollow roads far away from car traffic.

The tranquillity of nature, the wind in my face, the first rays of sunshine in the morning - all this makes this route more than just a commute.

More time for myself

What I want from myself in the new year is definitely more "me-time" To consciously take time for myself - for body and mind.

There's always something to discover when browsing in the Mayersche bookshop. I like to read a book in a cosy atmosphere, get inspired in the travel and games floor and enjoy a drink in the café on the upper floor. I could spend hours there and forget everything around me for a while!

Learning to appreciate the little things

In der Abendsonne spazieren Personen über den Münsterplatz am Aachener Dom vorbei.

With the start of a new year, you make space - for new plans, wishes and promises to yourself. This year, however, things are a little different for me. I've been living in Sardinia since November last year and have already experienced many culinary highlights. But the ‘German potato’ in me misses one thing in particular: typical Aachen bakeries.

Yes, I know - it's complaining on a high level, but who doesn't love the smell of freshly baked bread? Just sit down with a good filter coffee and a sandwich at Münsterplatz or in the Elisengarten and watch people going about their daily lives. Then deciding between Printen and Streuselbrötchen as a little sweet snack afterwards - for me, that's a little luxury that I will definitely treat myself to on my next journey home.

So my New Year's resolution is very clear: to appreciate the little things in everyday life, because you only realise that something is missing when it's no longer there.

On foot through everyday life

Durch eine Allee aus Bäumen führt ein Kiesweg, der von der Morgensonne angestrahlt wird.
Vor dem hellen Gebäude des Elisenbrunnens ist ein Blumenbeet mit einem Baum in der Mitte angelegt.

This year, I have made a firm resolution to get out and about more on foot in our beautiful city. My daily way to work is perfect for this: 35 minutes in the morning, 35 minutes in the afternoon - through the centre of Aachen, in all weathers. It's a great way for me to recharge my batteries, clear my head and develop new creative ideas. My route takes me through some beautiful corners: past the town hall and cathedral, across the Katschhof to the Elisenbrunnen, and on along the theatre to the beautiful Frankenberg district. There's always a lot to discover along the way! These moments enrich my everyday life and I look forward to experiencing Aachen in this way again and again.

Out into nature

Eine Frau sitzt mit angewinkelten Beinen in einem Park unter blauem Himmel.
Ein schwarzer Hund mit weißer Brust sitzt mit herausgestreckter Zunge auf einem Waldweg unter Bäumen.

This year, I want more nature, more exercise, more mindfulness. Last summer, I realised how good it feels to sit in the city park with a book and a snack and enjoy the sunshine. That's exactly the feeling I want to experience again this year.

Until summer returns, I want to integrate regular walks into my routine. These are particularly nice on the Lousberg with my part-time dog Moe.

The location of our office makes it easy for me to take my lunch break outside. My daily matcha tastes twice as good when I enjoy it on the steps of the town hall with a view of our beautiful cathedral. In summer, the Elisengarten is my favourite - a green oasis in the middle of the city. And to make sure I don't miss out on my love of books, I like to listen to an audio book.
